Dear Sandwich Marina Commercial Slip-holder,

The warm weather is upon us, boats are being launched, and there is much activity already on the waterfront.  I wanted to share some new information about the marina with you.

NEW MARINA BUILDING:  As of November 2016, we relocated to our new building on 12 Freezer Road.  All of our administrative business is conducted in our newest building.  The Town of Sandwich Police, Massachusetts State Police Marine Unit and the Army Corps of Engineers now occupy the old marina building.

WEBSITE:  Recently we upgraded our website, which will continue to provide updated information. You can visit us online at www.sandwichmarina.com.  Our new reservation system can be accessed through our website or visit www.dockwa.com directly to reserve a transient slip.  Our website has information that will assist through a myriad of items.

PARKING:  We intend to issue you a parking sticker for your vehicle at no charge to slip-holders on A/B/C and E Docks, an additional sticker can be purchased for $5.00 and limit of two (2) passes per slip.  Please bring a copy of your vehicle’s registration by the marina office to obtain your parking sticker.

We anticipate that parking will continue to be a challenge at the marina with the resiliency of the waterfront.  We also have taken steps with the Sandwich Police and Park Rangers to assist with the enforcement of designated parking.

RULES AND REGULATIONS:  The Sandwich Marina Rules and Regulations of 1993, were recently updated and will be posted on the website once signed.  If you need further clarification to an item, please contact our office.  Future addendums to the Rules and Regulations will be included as necessary.

ANNUAL REQUIREMENTS:  Commercial fishermen are required to provide the following documentation by August 31 annually to our office:

  • Commercial fishing licenses (state limited entry or federal permits)
  • Current insurance policy
  • Annual landing report/letter from the Massachusetts Department of Marine Fisheries.

ANNUAL LEASE/FEES/LATE FEES:

  1. Annual leases begin as of October first and are valid through September of the following year.
  2. New payment cycle is quarterly for commercial fishermen and due the first of the following months (September/December/March/June).
  3. Late fees are assessed for bills past 30 days.

In our effort to stay current with the town billing cycles and payment systems, we are transitioning to online billing, which will enable you to pay your bills on-line.  Our goal is to have this in place by the first of the year.

WAITLIST/TRANSACTIONS:  This year we had 35 transactions for slips.
5 – Non-renewals
3 – Commercial slips offered & accepted
12 – Pleasure slips offered and accepted
6 – Pleasure slips offered and declined
6 – Slip-holders relocated
3 – One year Sit-out

We had an unusual amount of slip-offerings that declined a slip after having been on the waiting list for over 20 years.  It is important to determine early if you plan not to renew your Sandwich Marina lease.  If you do not intend to lease for the 2018 season we want to ensure that the same opportunity that you have been afford is provided to those on the Sandwich Marina Waiting List.

SLIPS:  Due to the demand for commercial slips, slip-holders are required to notify our office prior to August 31st annually with your intent for the following year (i.e. Non-renewal).  This enables our staff the necessary time to issue newly vacated slips prior to first month of lease agreement, which is October of the same year.  Thus fulfills the requirements of the U.S Army Corps of Engineers Lease Agreement with the town.

STORAGE LOT:  The back storage lot that we maintain for the town has been neglected and we recently found mystery containers with unknown hazardous waste/etc.  The challenge is that this lot is adjacent to environmentally sensitive wetlands.  Year-round storage will no longer be offered after leases expire in July 2017.

All areas must be cleared of your gear prior to July 31, 2017 and inspected by our office.  If our office has not signed off on your lease prior to July 31, we will obtain a dumpster to dispose of unwanted gear and the lessee will receive a bill for their appropriate portion of disposal.

SIX-MONTH SLIPS:  We have begun the transition from six month slip holders to annual slip holders.  As of May 1, 2018, we will only offer winter six-month commercial slips from November 1 – April 30.

PUMP-OUT BOAT HOURS:  Please note that there are new hours for the pump-out boat, May 15 through October 15, from 6:00am – 10:00am and 2:00pm – 6:00pm.  We are also in the process of relocating the pump-out station and anticipate by the end of the summer we will be able to be perform this service at the fuel dock.
